On Tuesdays and Wednesdays after I wake up, I walk across the street and through the pathway cafés where people sit drinking average coffee and smoking fifty pack budget cigarettes, to the pet store just inside the door to the shopping mall.
I stand there amongst the small screaming and excited children and mothers with prams to watch the kittens play. I especially like when they have Bengal cats in stock. They make me feel happy, but what also goes through my mind is that men aren’t supposed to like cats for some reason, but then I remember all the cool men I know who like cats. Like the owner of the studio where I work, has a cat named John. Liam Lynch who makes music videos for foo fighters has three or four cats. And even had one of his cats who was killed by a car cloned, I think that cats name was Franky Forcefeild.
I then realise that I am not normal. Most people go through life trying to fit in while I seem to be purpose built to repel normality opting instead for my own kind of normal. Luckily though I seem to be surrounded by equally strange people as friends who appreciate my oddness.
